Schön Guten Tag
I dont have a reply as such.. Rather I would like to know where, how and by what costs this dissertation of Adam Bencard can be purchased?
My interest lies in that I have done a fieldwork of anthropology (2006) in a small scene of Butoh dancers in Buenos Aires. Butoh is a 'dance', which grew out of Japan in the late 50's by Kazou Ohno & Tatsumi Hijikata. It is now practiced in most parts of the world. It was a 'coincidence' that I came to study and dance it in Argentina!
The focus of my study was/is the dance and the dancers experience of it. I saw/see in the practice of Butoh an oppertunity to investigate into the workings of our mind in the body and vise versa. For example: In Butoh one goes gradually through hard physical exercises into a 'dance-state-of-being', ignited by images, which are painted in words by the teacher/instructor/master. This is highly meditative and concentrated whereby I claim that it is as if the body sometimes get to 'speak', that feelings, sensations and memories in/of the body gets room to come out.
Therefore any new perspective(s) on body, flesh, embodiment are to me highly welcome. And not least the notion of 'presence'...
Thank you and wishes for a nice Day.
Best Regards Mette Schwarz Sørensen

PS It might be practically relevant to note that I now reside in Berlin.
