Interesting post!
Having experienced first hand how an MRI machine works for a curatorial project, I would recommend to exhibit those machines only if they can be shown at work - otherwise, better to recreate the soundscape and the claustrophobic feeling of being inside it.

An awkward experience is to be able to see the outside whilst lying in the scanner thanks to a small mirror placed above the head.

An interesting project would also be that of showing them together with the early-cinema machines.

CT Scanners would be a very interesting thing to have at a medical museum. However, it may only gather limited interest from others who are outside of the radiology field or who do not get MRIs often because that exhibit would have no vested interest to those people.

The system in "CT at max speed" is a GE Lightspeed VCT XT 64-slice CTA scanner. Same system as the new Lightspeed VCT HD except for tube (Perseus vs. Hercules) and a bit of software. Have you tried GE's GoldSeal division?

SCIENCE and ART!

Somehow the development history of the CT scanner also covers this subject, which recently have been very popular in the Museion blog. Look at:

Best wishes

Hi András -- tomography grand round sounds like an exciting idea -- what are you thinking of more specifically?

With respect to acquiring a used CT scanner: Søren (who has some experience collecting MR-scanners) suggested this could be an obvious sponsoring opportunity for one of the big imaging equipment producers, like Siemens, GE, Philips, or even Toshiba. Cultural institutions like ours are increasingly depending on sponsoring.

Great post!
I mentioned it in my last one. Good luck with acquiring a used CT scanner. I image they are still damn expensive even the used ones. Let me know if you got one.
If you are interested in making a tomography grand rounds with me, let me know.
And by the way, the blog is ours, by each of us signs their name under each posts, so that readers know who wrote each piece.
Thank you!
