The National Library of Medicine has their images online too - about 50,000 of them - but they've stupidly put watermarks in them all even the ones from when they were the Army Medical Museum and Library which are in the public domain by definition, and also anything pre-20th century, which is also PD.

Our museum is putting ours on Flickr - check the links on the blog http://bottledmonsters.blogspot.com but we're digitizing 250,000 / year and haven't figured out how to mount them online yet.

Hi Luciana -- I wasn't aware of Science Photo Library's the new royalty free scheme. Thansk for pointing this out -- I'll add this to the post.

Science Photo Library (http://www.sciencephoto.com) is another useful source, cheaper than Getty, about the same price used by Wellcome, but more varied depending on the topic (now with royalty free images as well). I appreciate this blog! Cheers.
