To avoid any misunderstandings; the description in the document Thomas uploaded is targeted at the already taken phd position. Here´s a short description of the outlines for the post doc-project:
“The project will focus on how cultural values are integrated in the production and interpretation of the new images of the body, and we will study processes of naturalization; that is how phenomena are produced as unmediated facts of nature. To do this we will study how the images under study are spoken about in different contexts. In which terms do the producers and users of the images discern between nature, in the sense of biological material, and pictures of the same matters? What status of ‘proof’ and validity is given to the pictures? What are the criteria for a good picture?
1. Fieldwork in an Image Laboratory
This is to study how images are produced. Key questions addressed:
Which professions are involved and what are the contributions of different professions? What are the aims of the professionals involved in image production, and what are their criteria for a good image? What do they look for in the microscope, and how do they identify the matters they are looking for? Who are their contractors and customers? How do they convey their results to other academic communities and to the public? What are the technical limitations, and what do they imagine as technical possibilities for the future? Do they consider the image production as basically technology driven?”
