About us
This is the blog of Medical Museion, University of Copenhagen.
Medical Museion is a combined research and museum department attached to the Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences.
Historically, we have grown out of the former Medical History Museum in Copenhagen, founded in 1906.
In 2003 the Faculty of Health Sciences approved a new strategy for the department. Our focus is cultural and historical studies of contemporary medicine through
- research
- teaching
- acquisition and management of collections
- public outreach, particularly in the form of exhibitions
In 2005 the Novo Nordisk Foundation awarded us a major grant for the integrated research and curatorial project ”Danish Biomedicine 1955-2005: Integrating Medical Museology and the Historiography of Contemporary Biomedicine”.
The following people are currently contributing to the project — which we have begun to call “Biomedicine on Display”:
- Thomas Söderqvist, professor (principal investigator)
- Camilla Mordhorst, assistant professor, head of exhibitions
- Søren Bak-Jensen, senior curator
- Susanne Bauer, postdoc
- Sniff Nexø, postdoc
- Jan Eric Olsén, postdoc
- Jesper V. Kragh, postdoc
- Adam Bencard, research assistant
- Rikke Vindberg, research assistent
- Hanne Jensen, phd candidate
- Martha Fleming, visiting asssociate professor
- Ion Meyer, collection manager, academic conservator
- Anders Olsen, registrar

Good afternoon,
I am marketing representative of healthnews.com project. It would be great to get some information about opportunities of advertising our project in your site http://www.corporeality.net/
Best regards,

Dear Aureja,
Having discussed the advertising issue in-house, I think we’ve come to the conclusion that we will keep Biomedicine in Display as an ad-free zone. The arguments are pretty much the same as Nerdy Nomad’s — plus that we are a university-owned museum which should, in principle, operate on a non-commercial basis. Admittedly, we do sometimes deviate from this lofty principle, for example, when accepting sponsor money from private companies for exhibitions — but then we are speaking about exhibits which wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for the sponsor support; and in addition sponsor labels don’t disturb the exhibition very much. Anyway, thanks for your interest.
Hello, I just wondered if you were interested in including a link on your blog homepage to our blog and/or website. We are a Library focused on the history of medicine and mankind, and may be of interest to your readers.

I obviously didn’t look very carefully, as I see you already have a link to our Library website! :)

Your library is one of our favourite physical sites in London — so is your website and the very useful catalogue resources. But I didn’t know you have started a blog, too.
CONSERVATION OF ORGANS TO TRANSPLANT: NEW TECHNIQUE.
It is demonstrate that the hypothermic techniques of conservation of organs to transplant drained their possibilities of progress. In their substitution it is intends the ACTIVE CONSERVATION OF THE ORGANS IN NORMOTHERMIA. I represent QuantiaMD, an interactive physician community. After following your blog, I thought that you would be interested in learning more about the unique ways the service enables busy medical professionals to stay up-to-date in their field, compete against other doctors in solving cases, interact with peers and key opinion leaders, earn CME credits on-the-go, and earn rewards for sharing opinions on healthcare research.
Membership on QuantiaMD is free and limited to medical professionals. Two of the most popular features on the service include the Expert Practice Series, in which highly regarded physicians deliver concise, practical multi-media presentations on important clinical topics, and the Monthly Case Contest, where physicians from all over the country compete to solve cases and win “Q-Points.”
QuantiaMD just launched a new, free iPhone® medical application, giving members another great way to access the site on-the-go. QuantiaMD has a full range of mobile applications (including Blackberry® smartphone and Windows Mobile devices) that give busy doctors access anytime, anywhere.
QuantiaMD is one of the fastest-growing medical communities because it delivers valuable, practical knowledge in an interactive and engaging way while generously rewarding members for their input and participation. When members participate in market research, compete in the Monthly Case Contest, or share content with peers, they earn Q-points. Each Q-point has a $1 equivalent value and can be redeemed in multiples of 100 for Amazon gift cards (100 Q-Points = $100 gift card).
We are trying to raise awareness about Quantia’s new iPhone application by reaching out to select bloggers. As a thank you for taking a look at QuantiaMD, we would like to offer you 50 Q-points for registering. Please e-mail us your login name so we can grant you your start up points. Once you have tested out the site, we hope you’ll choose to write about the service and its new iPhone application on your blog.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We are interested in hearing your feedback and growing the QuantiaMD.com community.
Thank you,
Rebecca Brown

An interesting event bringing together the worlds of science and art being held in Melbourne Australia November 2009.
Inspired by the 150th publication anniversary of The Origin of Species, Darwin’s evolutionary treatise, Super Human: Revolution of the Species turns the spotlight on collaborations between artists and scientists and the impact these investigations have on what it means to be human, now and into the future.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am researching a case of an 1809 birth. The child either died during birth or shortly thereafter. The mother had no help during labor and deliver-she was alone. The child purportedly had either a dislocated or broken jaw, blood in the throat and otherwise appeared healthy and fully grown. The mother was hanged for murder.
It was suggested to me that, since she gave birth alone, the resultant facial injuries could have been caused by the delivery, as in the baby was expelled onto a wooden or stone floor, resulting in a jaw injury. Are there any other scenarios, beyond murder, which might fit with the dislocated or broken jaw, blood in the throat, and death? Thank you to anyone for their time.
Sincerely, Patricia
